What the seven of them have felt over the past three months, and their sincere feelings about music and the stage now――.
―I thought the three films, “ROSE”, “Burning Flower”, and “Blue Jeans”, seemed to be a story. Even in a muddy and ugly world, there are flowers =HANA’s debut song “ROSE” that expresses how they bloomed, “Burning Flower” that HANA sings about how they cheat with confidence, and behind the scenes, things can be in tatters. ”Blue Jeans” has the power to heal things. What’s more, at the end of the music video for “Burning Flower”, after going into the pool at night and losing her hair and makeup, “Blue Jeans” sings 〈My hair was a mess〉 at 1 a.m. I think it’s connected like that I even wanted to consider this.
KOHARU: Wonderful〜! I’m glad you’re considering it.
NAOKO: I’m happy.
―After ”ROSE” and ”Burning Flower,” ”Blue Jeans” is a song that exposes weak points such as 〈always lacking confidence 〉〈because I’m afraid of getting hurt〉, and for the first six months since its formation I think it’s a song that has a persuasive power and beauty because it’s sung by HANA, who has been standing on stage desperately. Once again, what was the past six months like for HANA?
JISOO: I’ve been talking to the members about this, but I love music and wanted to do music, so it’s been six months since I’ve been really grateful to be able to live with music.
ALL: (Applause)
CHIKA: I’m already feeling very grateful. Every time I appear on stage or on TV, or do an interview like this, I feel very grateful because I didn’t think I was someone who could do something like this. I spend my days in an environment where I can play music and think, ”I’m glad I took this audition.”.
YURI: I think it’s been half a year that I’ve spent with support. I think it was a period when more people wanted to sing and dance to this kind of music. I’d like to try things like R&B and rock that I haven’t done before at HANA, and jazz that CHIKA said they wanted to do.
―When you say “supported”, on the other hand, the places you go every day and the rhythm of your life will have completely changed, and I think it was my first six months of dedication, but I wonder if there were times when I was confused.
KOHARU: I was already full of confusion.
MAHINA: That’s right.
KOHARU: I learned a lot firsthand. I think it was a period when I was able to understand exactly what kind of world we would be living in from now on.
MAHINA: I learned a lot. I really feel like we all talked, supported each other, and overcame it.
MOMOKA: The first thing I learned was that I couldn’t understand what each member was thinking unless I told them.” There were many times when I thought it was naive to say, ”You know what I don’t have to say.”.
MAHINA: Over time, the members were able to face each other’s true feelings, thoughts, and feelings, and I think that was very important for the group.
NAOKO: I think it was a period when ”I” was being discovered. I truly believe that I was able to find it because I was with everyone and helped each other overcome it. Every day, my first feelings come out or I see a new me. I think some emotions that I wasn’t really aware of came to light. I had a different me every day, so I sometimes wondered which one was who I really was, but when I was with everyone, I was myself, and when I was frustrated and depressed like never before, I was myself. I started to think that it was me too. It was a very rewarding period.
―Since the days of “No No Girls”, she has shown a strong side that flips “No” directed at her by the public and “No” directed at herself into “YES”, and she has also appeared in “Drop”, “ROSE”, and “Burning Flower.” I’ve been doing it with performances full of strength There were days when I felt depressed because of my tattered appearance, like the one depicted in “Blue Jeans”?
NAOKO: Yes. You spend almost every day like that. Everyone practiced a lot, but sometimes they didn’t reach the level of perfection they wanted, and each of them felt frustrated about their hard work.” I feel depressed when I feel like I’ve done my best, but for me, everyone’s presence makes me think it’s okay and gives me the material to overcome it, so I feel like I’m working hard every day without getting too depressed. I feel like that.
JISOO: I’m already depressed every day. When I finish a performance, I always think, ”This was a bit of a shame,” so I get depressed one performance at a time. But everyone always says, ”It’s okay, it’s okay,” so I spend my days recovering.
―”Blue Jeans” also has the power to say “it’s okay” like that. In the first place, “jeans” has been a theme in the history of music that many musicians have turned into songs, and it is also a fashion item that symbolizes culture, but what did HANA want to express through “jeans”?
MOMOKA: 〈Blue jeans old sneakers〉 represents my “undressed self”, and I think it also represents the fact that there are people who still care about me, and that I’m fine with that kind of self One of the things I really want to convey with this song is that you don’t have to be that strong, and even if you get damaged or get a little nervous, you can just be who you are, and you’ll still be loved. is.
NAOKO: 〈Blue jeans old sneakers〉, everyone asked me to ”perform while thinking about my loved ones, friends, and family,” and even when I was listening to it, I kept repeating that over and over again. I think it conveys love, and even when I’m singing, I’m told, ”I’m told!” That’s what I think. By the way, I like damage to jeans, and I always wear them until they tear.
―When damage and scratches become cool and beautiful, I think that’s what everyone has been expressing since “No No Girls”, and that identity is expressed through “jeans”. There is still a tendency for girl groups to sell their youth, but I think HANA goes so far as to express that the group’s value lies in the taste of humanity that emerges over the years.
ALL: (Applause)
KOHARU: Thank you. I want to do it even if I become a grandma.
MAHINA: Even if I become a grandma, I want everyone to gather together and sing and dance!
―HANA is a gathering of people who have been exposed to a wide variety of music, including J-POP, J-ROCK, R&B, hip-hop, K-POP, US pop, jazz dance, classical ballet, and contemporary dance. I think they are a group that has the potential to show off their musicality. I imagine that the joy of finding a new direction for “Blue Jeans” was great, but what do you think?
YURI: When I first heard it, I was really happy. I’m also happy to be able to sing lyrics like this.〈 There’s a phrase that says “Don’t say anything about the future/Don’t just say it now〉”, but I also think, “If I enjoy the present, I’ll be able to do something about it”, and I also think that the members of HANA have a precious time called “the present.” I really like these lyrics because I wish I could enjoy them. This is my first time singing a ballad-like song, so I think it’s a song that conveys things like, ”HANA can do songs like this” in a very easy-to-understand manner. I think HANA’s image will change dramatically.
KOHARU: It’s the new HANA. If there was a fixed idea that ”HANA is like this,” I thought I could destroy it with this song. We and everyone else have the desire to show off a variety of HANA from now on, so I really feel that this song will serve as an opportunity for our possibilities to expand.
―What kind of image do you think is firmly established in today’s HANA, and do you feel like you were able to destroy it?
KOHARU: As you said earlier, it may seem like a strong image from the outside, but it also has a human touch.” I didn’t have confidence when I was with No No Girls, but after overcoming various things, I think you’ll be able to feel a story like ”enjoying your youth” or ”enjoying the present.”.
CHIKA: Of course, the song itself is different from HANA’s previous songs, and I think everyone’s singing voices, the emotions they express, and the facial expressions they use in their performances are showing a new side.
―Up until now, CHIKA has often shown off her powerful singing voice, but this time she uses a completely different singing voice.
CHIKA: Thank you. I’ve never been to this genre that much, and I didn’t even know what kind of drawer I had in the first place, so I listened to everyone’s voices and thought, ”It would be great if I could create this kind of atmosphere.” I sang while thinking.
―The composer is Ryosuke “Dr.R” Sakai, who has been involved in numerous Chan-san songs, BMSG-related songs, and “No No Girls”. What has been your experience working with Sakai since your debut as HANA?
NAOKO: They place great importance on using the good voices and emotions that each of them has, so they direct them in a way that makes them think, ”It’s okay to be yourself.”.
KOHARU: They’re like, ”The way we sang earlier was really good,” and they pick out the parts that show more of our strengths, so it’s fun because your self-understanding deepens at that moment.
MOMOKA: Up until now, my favorite artists have seen track makers, and I also like Sakai’s tracks, so being able to compose songs with Sakai is very special to me.” I feel like I’m working with amazing people, so I’m very grateful every time I receive direction.
―For “No No Girls”, we wrote our own lyrics and top lines for the tracks created by Sakai and others, and for “Burning Flower”, we created our own choreography, but we hope to continue making them ourselves in the future. Do you have any thoughts?
KOHARU: Yes!
MOMOKA: I want to do it!
NAOKO: Everyone wants to do a lot of creativity.
JISOO: Yeah, yeah.
MAHINA: I’m looking forward to it!
―In the three months since our debut, we went on a nationwide tour with Chanmina 『AREA OF DIAMOND 3』, held numerous festivals and events, and held a 『CENTRAL MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT FESTIVAL 2025 in TAIPEI』 in Taipei. There was talk at the beginning that you brushed up every time you went in, but what is the most important thing you do now when you stand on stage?
MOMOKA: Enjoying the stage. When I go on stage, I think it’s not good for the audience if I have thoughts other than “enjoying”. We learned that enjoying music and communicating it is a courtesy we must observe when standing on stage.
KOHARU: For me, ”enjoyment” has always remained the same, and I have set myself the goal of always taking home at least one lesson each time. I’m careful not only about my own performance, but also about the MC, rehearsals, and not eating too much before the actual performance, so I take it home with me as an experience and use it for the next time.
―As HANA, what is the point in your live performance that makes you think, ”I want to do more of this?”?
JISOO: Outside of performance, MC. I learned a lot from everyone’s tours, and I thought it was important for MCs to have fun along with their performances. Lately, I’ve been getting used to it a little bit better, but I’d like to be able to enjoy it a little more.
KOHARU: MCing is really important. It’s important to liven up the occasion, and you also want to convey that ”this is the kind of feeling that goes into the next song.”. That’s really difficult. I wanted to learn these things properly and stand on stage.
―The depth of the excitement for a live performance can change with just one MC. What else do you value when you’re on stage right now?
NAOKO: To respect the music, my past self, everyone who stands with me, and the many people who are involved in making the live performance possible. I approach live performances with the feeling that I start by spending every day thinking that I am an artist.
CHIKA: I believe that there is something that can only be conveyed by watching it live, so I place great importance on the ”live feeling” within myself.
MAHINA: I value what everyone always says, ”Changing the lives of people you meet.”. When I’m on stage, I always try to do my best with that in mind.
―Everyone has saved many lives themselves. I think the things I felt while touring with them and watching many of their live shows were also great.
MAHINA: While I was waiting (for my turn), I watched everyone’s performances from the wings of the stage, and I almost cried every time. I was in a state of excitement while listening to music.
YURI: There are seven of us, but all of you stood on stage by yourself in front of tens of thousands of people. .. .. .. .. .. .. I thought, “Oh, that’s terrible”. The same goes for mental strength, the same goes for concentration, and I always wonder how much power they wear out to save people by my side.
―After this, you have “HANA 1st FANMEETING 『HANA with HONEYs』” coming up, but what do you think of the future?
YURI: First of all, if we were to perform “Blue Jeans” on stage, I think we would be able to create an atmosphere we’ve never seen before, so I’m really looking forward to that.
NAOKO: I think I’ve had a lot of friends over the past period.” Whether it’s “No No Girls” or the lessons before that, I feel like I had friends, so I wonder if I can leave a message somewhere asking them to cherish that past as well. I also want to convey to them that by moving forward, we can dream more, and that each person has their own place to shine, so don’t push yourself too hard and try your best.
MOMOKA: I would be very happy if we could do dome tours and stadium tours in the future. I’ll do my best to create various surprises, so I hope you’re looking forward to it. Excited, pounding, squeaking!
MAHINA: I’m looking forward to 『』HANA with HONEYs. I want to meet you soon.
―How’s JISOO?
JISOO: First of all, I want everyone to have fun playing music while living a healthy life even as they get older so that they don’t get hurt physically or mentally. Of course, I would like to do a national tour, and to put it a little more broadly, I would also like to do a world tour.
―I really want you to take good care of your mental health. How’s CHIKA?
CHIKA: I just want to repay the favor I received twice as much. Anyway, I want to deliver love to the people who listen to me and the people who support me. That’s why I want to do a national tour as soon as possible.
KOHARU: As you said earlier, I want it to get deeper and deeper. I think many thoughts will deepen as we live our lives, so I would like to put them into songs and deliver them to everyone as music. My lofty goal is to become an artist who can save the world in seven ways. I think that feeling is always within us.
