Smart Mag Interview

An audition program 『No No Girls』 that became a hot topic for its unique concept of breaking down the prejudice against appearance and age that many people have and respecting talent and individuality. A girl group that was born under the guidance of a Chanmina producer, breaking the spell of NO decided by someone and NO denying themselves, and hugging many “YES”“ HANA ”. We will deliver a crosstalk between seven people who gave courage and hope to the world that will change the times ahead.

This time, YURI, CHIKA, MOMOKA, KOHARU Four people appeared.

――What efforts are you making now that you have decided to debut as HANA?

KOHARU The premise is that we take things for granted, but we are conscious of living our daily lives with even higher quality.

MOMOKA We often talk together about how we want to be a group that pays close attention to important things as a person, such as how to say hello and express gratitude. Let’s talk about how to convey the message and what actions to take, and let’s all work together to improve it.

YURI On top of that, don’t lose sight of who you are.

CHIKA We may face the parts of our minds more often than our performances.

MOMOKA There are still more skills to hone, but I think the expression will change depending on how you feel about it. First, heart. Don’t get depressed or demoralize.

KOHARU Even though I’m doing my best, there are so many unknowns and so many new things to learn. Mental health is important because every day is dizzying.

CHIKA Even in performances, I feel like we’ve been spending more time thinking about how to liven up the people watching our live performances, rather than just individual skills.

YURI We all naturally talk about it, but CHIKA is the one who often gives us opinions and summarizes things. He will take the initiative and pull it.

CHIKA Good (Teru).

MOMOKA Don’t be shy〜 (lol).

KOHARU JISOO also has a lot of knowledge, so they help me.

YURI I’m not good at livening things up, so when I liven things up at a live show, I ask myself, “What words should I use?” I consulted with him.

KOHARU Also, how you raise your voice! I try to keep it low and scream along with the song, and I rub it together properly.

――What are the highlights and highlights of your debut single “ROSE”?

KOHARU There are a lot of emotional ups and downs.

MOMOKA It feels like I’m struggling. The fragility and beauty of humans are a mess.

CHIKA The way she struggles is so beautiful, and I really like her, including the choreography.

YURI It’s not just about beautiful things, it’s about the essence and depth.

KOHARU Even in dance, there are poses and compositions reminiscent of flowers, which is visually interesting.

CHIKA There’s a headbang in the flow from JISOO’s part to mine, but the contrast of the headbang against the background of the clear singing voice is really fun.

――What keywords symbolize HANA?

MOMOKA When a group is formed, I want everyone to live their lives with the focus on being “raw”.

KOHARU I’m risking my life! We want them to fully feel the energy that only we can give them, and we perform while believing that it has arrived.

CHIKA I don’t lie about trying to make myself look bigger. Being a living thing doesn’t work unless we are real.

KOHARU It’s a lifelong effort. As long as I’m alive.

YURI I would be happy if I could be someone who can support the people who listen to it.

HANA’s appeal lies not only in her performance, but also in her “honesty” and “personality”
――What kind of song is your debut single “ROSE”?

NAOKO It’s a song that everyone has put a lot of thought into it, and it’s a song and performance that really doesn’t fit into just one emotion, no matter what part of it is. Not just cool, not just cute, not just beautiful. I think the word “packed with emotion” is perfect.

JISOO There are a lot of parts sung by several members, and the way the voices overlap makes this a very impressive song. When I listened to a temporary song that didn’t even have lyrics yet, the melody and track were so good that I couldn’t help but cry (lol).

NAOKO When I first heard it, I was excited to think that this would be an amazing debut song. There are parts of the voice that overlap with the image of me going to save JISOO-chan, but I think it’s also expressed in the performance, and it’s a great highlight.

MAHINA I also like the scene where everyone collapses around KOHARU in the center at the end. It’s a performance inspired by flowers, but it’s fresh with a composition I’ve never seen before, and it’s really beautiful!

――What kind of group do you think HANA is to you?

JISOO In one word: “Colorful”. Just as there is not just one flower, but many different colors and shapes, we also value the different personalities of each flower.

MAHINA Seven people, seven colors. Not only the technique, but also the personalities of the members are very compatible. JISOO is solid and takes care of your daily life, and NAOKO is sharp on stage, but fluffy and kind in front of everyone. Everyone has a proper role within the group. My role is…arugaki lol.

NAOKO I also thought of the word “honest”. The members of HANA are all honest and straightforward, both in terms of performance and everyday interactions. For example, during a lesson, I would say, ”This is what I thought…” and frankly convey what I felt, or I would listen carefully to the opinions of other members. After debuting, I once again feel that this kind of sincerity is connected to the warmth and sense of unity of the entire group.

――Have you been working hard since your debut?

MAHINA I exercise! Since I decided to make my debut, I feel like I’ve lost a lot of exercise, so I train on my own so I can maintain my physical strength.

JISOO I’ve been taking a lot of supplements lately (lol). I was trying things that were recommended to me by various people, and before I knew it, there were so many!

NAOKO WOW! ( LOL I also started to take care of my health by eating lots of vegetables and getting a good night’s sleep. In order to stay healthy and healthy, I continue to do my own research little by little.

――What would you like to do next?

JISOO I really like making songs, so someday I’d like to make my own. I hope that the group as a whole can create expression, not just songwriting.

NAOKO I also have a lot of things I want to do, so I’d like to try choreographing myself first. I want to aim to be someone who gets excited when you hear the word HANA.

MAHINA I want to do a lot of outdoor live shows for the summer! I want to wear a tank top, shorts, and summery clothes and have fun with everyone in the sun!

――What was your childhood like?

YURI Ever since I can remember, I’ve always been strong-willed. Even now, his competitive personality hasn’t changed, but when I think back on those days, he was so bullish that even I thought, ”Please give me a break.” 〜laughs). Even at an elementary school sports day, if I don’t get first place “hmph!” You had such a cute attitude.

――What about YURI, who hates losing, is that he can’t lose to anyone here?

YURI I think it’s a lyric. At first, I wasn’t that conscious of it myself, but as I started receiving more compliments on my lyrics, I started to realize that it might be my strength. Isn’t this what you mean by thinking about it for a moment, rather than being direct? I like writing lyrics that make people feel like they are.

I was particularly influenced by Ringo Shiina and Hikaru Utada! I’ve read a lot of their lyrics, and each word has a very unique sense of style “how come up with this phrase!?” That’s what I think every time. When I was feeling depressed, I listened to Hikaru Utada’s 『time will tell』 and was struck by the lyrics, “People say that crying doesn’t change anything, but no one cries with that in mind”. Sometimes I was saved. From now on, I want to be someone who can help others by telling them through my songs that I want to live slowly together.

――What was your childhood like?

JISOO He was a kid who was good at doing things alone. Since I was an only child, my parents told me from an early age “if you were going to do it, do it until the end with a sense of responsibility”. I think that word naturally helped me grow more independent. My mother loves music, and when I was dropping her off at nursery school, she always played foreign hip-hop and R&B songs in her car instead of songs aimed at children. Looking back now, I feel like that time was the origin of my music.

――How do you think music affects your life?

JISOO My life so far is still short, but I’ve been depressed and stopped many times. I personally think of myself as someone who can stand up again and again, and it’s when I’m falling that I really feel the power of music. When I’m taking a walk while listening to music, I often find myself gradually looking forward.

Through this audition, I started receiving compliments on my voice from many people, and I gradually gained confidence in my singing voice. I think the voice is individuality itself, so I would like to use that as a weapon to fully express my own color in HANA from now on. And when someone listens to our music “this is HANA’s song!”“ This voice, JISOO!” I want to be someone that people can understand right away.

――Looking back on your life so far, what has influenced you?

MOMOKA It’s music. Ever since I was a child, I wanted to be a person who helps people. There was a time when he aspired to become a doctor, but becoming an artist makes him have a stronger ability to communicate and have an influence. The music made me realize that I might be able to save a lot of people who weren’t right in front of me.

――What is your current weapon?

MOMOKA It’s also my original personality “optimistic”. More often than not to myself, everyone on my team has been telling me lately that my optimism has helped. Also, a low, strong voice is my only weapon. Because of this voice, I was able to become HANA, and I was able to love voices that I used to hate.

――What is your dream as an artist?

MOMOKA What hasn’t changed since I started aiming for my dream is to “become an artist who can make people all over the world happy”. When I was in high school, I set a goal of making my debut at the age of 20, and when I realized that I was now in the place I had envisioned back then, I was able to fully affirm my past self, knowing that I had made no mistake in my journey. became. There are some parts that are a bit of a detour, but in this way I am able to get there in the way I want without forcing or neglecting my individuality. I want to continue to move forward with my individuality.

――What was your childhood like?

KOHARU Anyway, he was the type of person who was energetic, positive about everything, and had a strong spirit of challenge. For example, when I went to nursery school, I think some children clung to their mothers, but I didn’t even look back and headed to the nursery school with all my might (lol). The youngest of three sisters, her family is all cheerful and positive, and the house is always lively. My cheerful personality is in this family! I think I’m influenced by that.

――What kind of person has influenced you the most in your life so far?

KOHARU It’s family after all. Especially since my mother was also a dance teacher, she created the foundation for my own expression. My school teacher taught me a lot, but it was about studying, and what my mother taught me was even closer to how to live. I feel like I was able to naturally learn about values, how to be in society, and how I want to be in my daily life.

Also, the songs of various artists I have met in my life have had a big influence on me. When I’m depressed or mentally wobbly, my routine is to stay in a pitch-black room and listen to music, and that’s how I’ve been saved many times. Now that I’ve started out as an artist, I want to become someone who can be someone’s reason for living, and I want to deliver music!

――What was your child like when you were little?

NAOKO I think he was a quiet type. Even in my class, I don’t like standing out, so I try not to stand out as much as possible (lol). However, when it comes to music and dance, they are unusually enthusiastic, and when it comes to school events such as choir festivals and concerts, they lean forward. Also, I loved jumping rope, so I was very excited about jumping rope competitions. Be proactive only about what you want to do. From the perspective of those around him, I think he was a quiet but easy-to-understand child “I like him”.

――Were you trying your hand at lessons?

NAOKO I had fun playing the piano, tea ceremony, flower arranging, and whatever I was interested in! I ended up satisfied. However, when I started dancing in second grade, I was never satisfied with just the fun. The only thing I could continue to do was dance. Dancing can make someone smile with just one movement of their body, even without words. I myself grew up in Thailand, and when I returned to Japan at the age of 6~7, I didn’t understand Japanese very well. However, I was moved by the power of dance to transcend language and country. That may be the starting point.

――What kind of artist would you like to be in the future?
NAOKO I want to bloom all over the world as HANA. NO, such as unpleasant things and complexes that everyone has, will definitely turn into a weapon and become your own strength. I want to be an artist who can properly convey and prove that.

――What was your childhood like?

CHIKA I loved the stage. She sings out loud at play parties, and in a play 『The Very Hungry Caterpillar』, she wants to play the role of the first apple, played by just one person. Singing and dancing started out as lessons, but before I knew it, they became my dreams for the future. It was in high school that that dream turned into a realistic goal.

Until junior high school, there weren’t any kids around who sang or danced, but in high school, there were many kids who aspired to that world, and by jumping into an environment with high aspirations, becoming a professional became a reality. I think being able to make friends to pursue together was a big turning point for me. If it wasn’t for that encounter, I might have given up on this path.

――What is your favorite point at the moment?

CHIKA Lately, I’ve been reaffirming that “I really like live performances”, and that’s why I can’t and don’t want to lose in live performances. I believe that the essence of an artist lies in live performances, so I want to deliver live singing voices and dance that are born in a special space, and I want to share the excitement that will never come again. I want to enjoy it as many times as I want, so I really want to continue playing music for a long time. And I hope that someday, through music, we can change our concept of beauty even just a little. I want to get rid of beauty preconceptions and prejudices, and become a person who has a wider range of options.

――What was the turning point that led to who I am now?

MAHINA I’ve always been bad at trying and diving into new environments. The reason I became as naughty as I am now was because of a girl I met in elementary school. The child is very cheerful, likes to appear in public, and is not afraid to speak out. As I try to give up or get a little confused, “it’s okay!” Can do!”” This is how you can do it”, he said in an absolutely positive way.

As we were together, I realized that I was becoming more and more positive. I’m no longer afraid to take the first step, and I no longer say “I can’t” myself. The importance of not reading ahead, shaking off your worries, and trying first, and the magnitude of that value, is something that I, as a HANA student, realize more than anyone else. This experience will continue to support and encourage me.

――What kind of artist do you envision?

MAHINA I want to be a person who is always wanted on stage and can continue to stand. Music may not be visible to the naked eye, but when it’s heard, it resonates more with the heart than the head. It’s very simple, but I would be happy if I could bring courage and energy to the hearts of so many people, and I want them to smile. To that end, I have to continue to improve myself as a person.
